This is a well-designed flashlight that offers much more than just light. It's sturdy, looks great, and fits perfectly in your pocket, ready to go at a moment's notice. I would recommend this product to anyone seeking a reliable light source.

Just the job .excellent concept

I held off on getting an E5 Angel Eyes for years, because I've been an avid fan of the A5 and A8 Aurora mini lights. In my mind the A5 is pretty much the perfect pocket companion flashlight. That said. . . I finally got around to taking a chance on the E5R in 4000k.

The build quality is very good. I find the clasp holds firmly. The rotation of the head to access the AAA cell seems well done and moderately water resistant. The UI is an improvement over the A5/A7/A8 series, as there's now 2 buttons. It's a little weird transitioning, because now the E5 (E1~8 series) relies upon the lock feature. When unlocked, there's no longer a double-click required to activate--it's now single-click for ON/OFF of the primary LEDs. The sidelights don't abide by the same UI, though. Single click is ON, but a press+hold is required to turn OFF. Lock/unlock that locks out both is 4 rapid clicks. This is a bit tedious. I'd have preferred a press+hold.

Double-click from off puts the primary into the 3 main brightness modes menu, which is cycled by single clicks. Last mode used is remembered. You can only get out of it by a press+hold. Double-click just brings you to the brightest mode. I'd have preferred that a second double-click puts you back into moonlight mode with single-click for ON/OFF.

The 2nd button is single click to activate for the 1st LED group, then a double-click and triple click for other modes. You can switch between 2nd and 3rd by double-click and triple-click, but single click just advances through the mode group options. You cannot go back to the first group while on. You have to press+hold to turn off. Press+hold from off does nothing. . . which is a shame. I think this could've been assigned for lockout, rather than requiring 4 clicks.

Overall, I think it's a nifty little light. Very small and yet very bright.
My particular E5 is the E5R, with white+red side LED's and no UV. The polycarbonate body is GITD, with a modest amount of glow. It's about comparable to the A5. It's not as bright as I'd like it to be, but at least when it dims it's a slow drop-off. The buttons are excellent, just like on the G4 Aurora series. Charging is fast! This is a very nice advantage over the older generations.

While the alternate power source is an interesting idea, you're not going to get the kind of brightness performance from an alkaline AA that you would with the Li-ION built-in cell. I wish there'd been an option to accept a Li-ION cell in the open slot, and that you could alternatively recharge it. Either that, or just one larger built-in cell would've been a good idea, with the option of replacing it later on if it wears out.

After purchasing, I saw that I had chosen the wrong one. I was going back and forth between the E5 warm white + RED and the E5 warm white + UV, and I accidentally added the wrong one (warm white + red) to the cart. I saw my mistake after receiving the purchase confirmation email and replied to the same email, as instructed in said email, to change my order from the warm white + Red to the warm white + UV, but nothing has happened since. In the package tracking, it says that I will receive the warm white + Red one. This means that I will have to send it back and reorder it again. This is highly inconvenient for me because I did what was necessary on my part to correct my mistake, but still nothing happened.
